About TRG Headshots Dallas Photographer Travis Massingil
It was October 1975 and my family and I were at a family reunion deep in the East Texas Piney Woods. My mother’s cousin had a Canon SLR. The inquisitive nature of an 11-year-old boy made me ask about it. It was offered to me for the day with a new roll of 35mm film. Then with a few short instructions, I was capturing my cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents with the reckless enthusiasm which youth imparts. I have no idea what happened to the photos which were taken that day, but my parents were informed that I was going to be a photographer when I grew up. I’m sure they were impressed as I had also told them I was going to be a pilot, scuba diver, explorer and a Texas Ranger. As days, weeks and months passed, I asked for a camera over and over, but a camera never came. It was simply too expensive for a school teacher’s kid. I moved on to something else and the years passed by.
Fast forward to 1994… My wife, 2 year old daughter and I were living in the northern suburbs of Houston among the evergreens. Mark and Bette came to stay with us from Dallas. Betty brought her Canon SLR just like the one I had played with on that fateful day in 1975. She was snapping pictures all weekend. She ran up to the 1 hr photo to have a roll of film developed… I was blown away by the pictures she captured over the weekend! When I asked, she informed me her camera was purchased “used” in a pawn shop! Within a year, I had purchased my own Canon AE1 from a pawn shop. I devoured magazines, books and articles learning everything I could about photography. At first photographing my kids, then their sporting activities such as Soccer, T-Ball, Basketball and BMX. I gave away thousands of photos of other people’s children over the years. Everyone said my pictures were as good as or better than anything they had paid for in the past. Over time, the Roan Gallery vision & style began to take shape.
Now with the kids out of the house, I have the time and resources to devote to my artistic passion! When Covid hit in early 2020, I changed photographic direction and started shooting headshots. People were working from home and not in an office. Many people feared going out into places with lots of people. I created a studio and started working by appointment only with one person at a time to minimize the risk of exposure. Even during the pandemic, social media and online experience grew exponentially so the need for a quality headshot grew as well.
TRG Headshots Dallas was created to fulfill this need. “www.trgheadshots.com"
